Workshop Description: |
|
Have you ever finished your quilt top and thought, "Now what?" This class is for you! Whether you're a hand quilter, machine enthusiast, or send your tops out to be quilted, this is the information every quiltmaker needs to bring projects to happy completion. Hear about the history of quilt marking and where the designs originated. Examine tracings of 18th-19th century wholecloth quilts. Learn to match pesky borders and corners and practice your new-found skill on paper before committing it to your quilt. Get advice on that 'problem child' you've been meaning to quilt and gain confidence and knowledge in this jam-packed class. For $3 per person, Pepper will provide a kit of an authentic Amish quilting design stencil plus all the paper you'll need in class.

Class Supplies: |
|
Please bring to class: a sampling of the different tools you use to mark quilts (pencils, chalk pencils, chalk wheel etc.) If you don't have any chalk pencils, one good buy is the pack of pencils from Clover. Pencils by Roxanne (white and silver) are also good. About the chalk wheel-the Chakoner from Clover is good. Bring some of your own stencils (mark with your name-) especially those that have puzzled you.
An 18" ruler. Pencil with eraser. Notebook and pen. A Fine-Point Sharpie marker.
Best of all-bring a project you need quilt marking advice about. A quilt top in progress or an old top you'd like to get started on. If you have an antique quilt with fine stitching you'd like to share, that's welcome too. One project apiece please.
The text for this class is this AQS book: Pepper Cory Quilting Pattern Collection (available to view or to buy-see below). You may also find (or perhaps have in your collection) my 1996 book Mastering Quilt Marking. Bring to class if you have MQM. ItŐs often available on ebay or Amazon.com.
FYI: I will have available to purchase white and silver marking pencils, a variety of stencils, and the above book. All of these are optional and not required in order to take the class. |
