Block Swap

Block Swap and Charity Quilt Sew-A-Thon!  Have you been working on your blocks for the block swap?  Make sure to get them done in time and bring them to this meeting.  Bring 20 blocks of your own and receive 20 blocks back of all different colors from other guild members!  This is a great way to create a super scrappy quilt with fabrics you've never seen before. After picking up your blocks, stay and sew in the Charity Quilt Sew-A-Thon!  Let's see how many quilts we can piece or quilt in one evening.  Don't feel pressure to haul your whole quilting studio with you.  We're sure to have plenty of machines and tools for everyone to use.  Just bring yourself, your swap blocks, and a winning attitude!

Block Swap Info
Let's swap some blocks!  This year, our guild is doing a block swap and everyone is invited to participate.

How does this work:

Piece together 20 blocks according to the directions below.  Place them in a 1 gallon ziplock bag with your name written on the front and bring them with you to the October 2010 meeting.
At the meeting, we'll take all the blocks, mix them up and divide them again.  If you bring 20 blocks, you will leave with 20 blocks, only now they will be 20 totally different colors and styles made by other guild members!
Bring as many sets of 20 blocks as you like.  The more the merrier!

Swap Block Piecing Instructions:

Cut pieces:
2 4.5" squares of any colored fabric except white
2 4.5" sqares of a white fabric (it can be a print so long as it reads white at a distance)

Piecing:
Piece together 1 colored square with 1 white square 2 times. Piece the 2 rows together so that the white squares are diagonal from one another.
This forms a basic 4 patch block!
This block should measure 8.5" at this time.
Make 20 8.5" 4 patches to participate in the block swap!
Feel free to make even more blocks so long as you have 20 blocks per set.
